So, I found out my placement for student teaching this spring. I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I’m in a school that is “fully-inclusive.” This means that there are no self-contained classrooms. The school has very little technology (some classrooms were using OHPs still). It is an elementary school, which is not what I want to teach at all. But, I will need the experience. I am also slightly disappointed that it is not a Title I school. Having gotten the TEACH Grant, I will be required to teach in a low-income school and so I was hoping I could become familiar with one. Special education teachers here are “floaters.” They serve mainly in a co-teach capacity or do pull-outs. Some sped teachers cover two different grades. They do not have their own classrooms, at best they have offices where they can store things.
But, when I visited the school earlier this semester, it was not that bad. I don’t think my experience will be terrible, but I am a little leery. I can’t wait to actually start working with kids; I want to start applying what I have been learning.
We will see how it goes.
